Oven Baked Apple French Toast Casserole

This Oven Baked Apple French Toast Casserole recipe uses Goodman's Natural Caramel Flavor and Goodman's Pure Vanilla Extract to create a perfect holiday morning breakfast.

Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

For the casserole:

  • 1 lb loaf French bread, cut into chunks (day-old works best)
  • 3 cups apples, chopped (peeled or unpeeled, about 2 large apples)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon Goodman's Pure Vanilla Extract
  • ½ teaspoon Goodman's Natural Caramel Flavor

For the streusel topping:

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ cup salted butter, cold and cubed

Optional toppings: Maple syrup, whipped cream, powdered sugar, or caramel sauce

Instructions

  • Coat a 9x12-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, toss the bread chunks and chopped apples together. Spread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • In another large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, Goodman's Pure Vanilla Extract, and Goodman's Natural Caramel Flavor until smooth. Pour evenly over bread and apples, pressing lightly so all bread soaks up the custard.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor and texture.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the center is set.
  • While baking, mix streusel ingredients in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. After the casserole has baked for 35–40 minutes, remove from the oven, sprinkle streusel evenly over the top, and bake an additional 25-30 minutes, until the topping is golden and crisp.
  • Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, or an extra drizzle of caramel sauce.
